Washable training pants may be the potty training solution you’re looking for.

Training pants play a very important role when your child is learning to go to the bathroom.  They are a visual sign to your child that he or she really will stop using diapers, and will actually become a grown-up who uses the toilet.

In terms of training pants, there are really two different kinds of training pants: disposable, and washable.

Some parents confuse training pants with diapers, however, the two are different things. A diaper is something your child uses when they don’t know how to go t the toilet. They never take it off to go to the toilet – in fact, it’s impossible for a child to take off his or her own diapers.

On the other hand, a training pant is something your child wears when they are able to go to the toilet. A training pant should be used like regular underwear. Your child should be prepared to go to the toilet when he or she needs to, and not use the training pants as a potty receptacle.

However, the reason your child wears training pants and not regular underwear, when they’ve first learnt potty training, is the fact that accidents do happen. Accidents happen quite frequently when your child first learns to go to the toilet by himself or herself, simply because potty training gets better with practice. Wearing regular underwear would mean constant messes that you’d have to spend all your time cleaning up. In addition, your toddler might become embarrassed by the messes and have difficulties in become toilet trained.

Potty training pants help your toddler go through the potty training stage without any great difficulties (either for you or your child).

So, when choosing your toddler’s training pants, should you opt for disposable or washable?

Disposable training pants have a few advantages – they’re easily available in supermarkets, and you just throw them away after one use. However, they tend to cost a lot in the long run, and they’re very bad for the environment. That’s why many parents are opting for washable training pants these days.

Washable training pants feel more like regular underwear. Their major advantage is that they actually speed up the potty training process – because disposable training pants are so much like diapers, many children take longer to learn to go to the bathroom, and use the disposable pants as a potty receptacle.

Washable training pants feel wet whenever your toddler has an accident, so they’re encouraged to go to the bathroom rather than keep wearing dirty training pants. This speeds up the learning process.

In addition, washable training pants are much less expensive than disposable ones. You simply buy a few pairs of training pants, and keep washing and reusing them. They’re also more environment friendly.

However, washable training pants will take some effort to use – instead of just throwing a used training pant away, you need to put it into the laundry and dry it. Of course, this is just a little bit of extra effort that some parents feel is worth it.

At the end of the day, you need to take your toddler’s needs into account to choose the right training pants for them.
