Training Pants for Toddlers

It’s very important to choose the right training pants for toddlers.
Training pants play a very important role when your toddler is learning to go to the toilet alone. These pants are
a visible symbol in your child’s eyes that it really is time to say goodbye to diapers, and they really will have
to go to the toilet.
Your toddler has already heard you describe what he or she needs to do in the bathroom, and they’re probably
familiar with the potty or training seat. But saying hello to training pants is a big gesture. It shows that the
time to use the toilet is really here.
Scientists have even conducted research that shows the importance of using toilet training pants, in order to
progress with potty training quickly.
This step into the world of training pants may be a big change for your toddler, but they will quickly learn how
great it is to not have to wear diapers like babies. They’ll learn to recognize the discomfort of feeling wet, and
be motivated to go to the toilet like big kids who wear underwear.
However, there will be a few accidents in the beginning. How quickly a child learns to go to the toilet varies
from each child to the other, so there will be a few accidents along the road. Accidents are part and parcel of the
whole process. In fact, it’s normal for children to have accidents even a few months after they’ve learnt to go to
the toilet by themselves, regularly. In these circumstances, using training pants with a plastic exterior will save
you from having to clean up a big mess every time.
There are a few choices you have when selecting potty training pants for toddlers:
Disposable training pants:
These can be pulled up or down easily by your child, since they have elastic waistbands. They can be thrown out
easily after use, and they’re commonly available in supermarkets. Your toddler won’t be embarrassed by accidental
wetness, since any mess will be contained within the training pants themselves. However, the problem with these
pants is their similarity to diapers. Some toddlers don’t even notice being wet when they wear these training
pants, and find it hard to progress with potty training.
Cloth training pants:
These are similar to regular underwear, but are somewhat thicker, so they’re able to absorb smaller accidents. They
also look like regular underwear, something that your child is likely to find appealing. You can easily wash these
training pants, so they’re better for the environment and more affordable. However, they’re not always commonly
available in stores, and you may have to buy them online.
Regular underwear:
Toddlers love these, because it makes them feel so much more grown up. However, they don’t provide any protection
at all the case of accidents, and you may have to spend all day cleaning up! That’s why most parents don’t start
out with these, but rather save them for later when the child is completely potty trained and has no more
accidents.
